  • Venue size: Sanctuary size is approx. 1,200′ sq. with no columns or pillars. Ceiling height approx. 20′.
  • Lighting: From overhead chandeliers, extra-large windows both sides (can be opened for ventilation), and rear glass-paneled doors.
  • Electrical: Cat-5 cabling available both upstairs and down. Frequent 110v wall outlets around perimeter. Please note that this is a residential neighborhood and noises ordinances are strictly enforced. All events must end no later than 10 pm.
  • Floor: Douglas fir throughout.
  • Seating: Original hardwood pews will seat up to 40, plus another 85 chairs and tables available as required.
  • Other: Two large wood vanities flanking stage include microwave, refrigerator, and wine cooler.
  • Parking: Drop-off and pick-up only. Sorry – no event parking available.

Set Up Options

Overlook Hall’s upstairs sanctuary can be configured to meet almost any need. Our most popular layouts are below.

  • Theater/Lecture/Recital: Auditorium-style seating with chairs facing the podium or screen located at the front of the Hall. Standing room at back can also be allowed for.
  • Classroom/Lecture Room/Breakout: A more personalized setting with all tables facing the front of the Hall.
  • Conference/Symposium Style: For events requiring discussion and the exchange of ideas.
  • Meeting/Seminar: For presentations that require interaction among members of the audience.
  • Wedding Ceremony: Original church pews, white chairs, and black candelabras are all available at no cost to help create a beautiful setting for your special day.
  • Reception/Banquet: Ideal for events that include extensive food and/or beverage service.
  • Dance/Exercise: The Hall’s 1,100 sq. ft. of open space provides ample room for active events.
  • State-of-the-art sound system is included in all layouts.

Reservation Details

First, take a look at the calendar and see if the date(s) you have in mind is/are available. If so, please let us know as soon as possible. Sorry – we can only reserve dates for 48 hours after e-mailing you our rental agreement.

To confirm the reservation, we’ll need the following:

  • a signed copy of our rental agreement, and
  • a 50% non-refundable deposit. At least 30 days prior to your event, we also need a Certificate of Insurance from your carrier or another underwriter naming Silverfish Press as “additional insured”. If you don’t have an insurance agent that will write such coverage, go to www.specialmarkets.com to obtain same. It’s neither difficult nor expensive. More particulars are available on request.

Note that there are certain kinds of events we simply cannot accommodate, including those with live animals, excessive noise, and underage drinking. Please contact us directly if you have any questions regarding event parameters.

Rental rates are by the day and do not vary with type of usage. Our daily rental rate for the entire facility is $2,000. Weekly and monthly rates are also available; please contact us for a quotation.

In addition, please understand that this entire amount is non-refundable under any circumstances. Also required is a $500 deposit that will be refunded to you within seven (7) days unless there is abnormal damage or stolen property. Full payment must be received at least 48 hours in advance of your event. Sorry, but your party will not be allowed to occupy the building unless all funds have been received as outlined above.

Included in the rental rate are pews and/or chairs to match the size of your party, 6′ tables as needed, a podium, computer projector, and portable projection screen. Please advise us as soon as possible of how you would like the venue configured (auditorium seating/no tables, classroom seating with tables, or separated groups of tables and chairs for break-out sessions, etc.). We do not provide food or catering services, flowers, linens, entertainment, or other party accessories. However, we can direct you to a variety of resources on the island, including meeting and wedding planners. For starters, consider visiting the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce website that serves as a portal for many such service providers.

Finally, please keep in mind the following. While Overlook Hall is located almost exactly in the center of Avalon, there is no adjacent parking and your attendees will either have to walk to/from the venue or engage a taxi. Insofar as several of Avalon’s finest hotels are within 50 yards of the Hall, this should not be a consideration for most people but will be notable for a few. In addition, this venue is located in a residential area and local ordinances require that all special events be concluded by 10 pm. Please be sensitive to your neighbors and guard against excessive noise to ensure a problem-free event.
